Looks like fall here in New Hampshire and it feels like it too. We’ve had a few chilly days where I woke up to see a layer of frosty mist on the front lawn. My window boxes of Impatiens still look good though!
Hard to believe my baby is already 2 months old. He’s huge (13+ lbs), gorgeous, and has a head full of curly dark brown hair. How did I get so lucky? After growing and giving birth to 5 kids, I’m amazed by my body. Does it spring back into shape magically? Hell no. But I try to remind myself that I could look a lot worse after having 5 kids!
Self care is important. I’ll say it louder for the people in the back… SELF CARE IS IMPORTANT! If you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t help others. If you can’t help others, well, that’s just not a life you want to live.
โA life not lived for others is not a life.โ
Mother Teresa
Taking care of my kids is my job but it also brings me joy. Yes, there are hard days when I want to lock myself in the bathroom and cry, but I make sure those moments don’t overshadow all the good moments. How do I do that? Self care.
For some that might mean scheduling a hair cut or a manicure, for others, it might mean a yoga class or a date night with hubby. Whatever you need to help you feel your BEST, do it.
Go ahead and buy yourself a new dress or a new pair of jeans. If that helps you feel pretty and confident, that will radiate through and affect other areas of your life. If you feel good about yourself, you will feel better helping others.
Maybe you just need a day to yourself to regroup and reflect or maybe you just need to treat yourself to some new jewelry. I always feel put together and more confident if I’m wearing nice jewelry. Recently I’ve been loving rose gold jewelry. It’s not as casual as silver and not as dressed up as 14k gold. It’s a comfy middle ground that can go either way, making it perfect for a busy mom like myself. Rose gold is perfect for fall too!
I especially love stacking rings because they are comfortable and yet still interesting to look at.. I’m also really fond of dainty looking jewelry so these rings really make me feel put together and feminine on a daily basis.
It can be really hard for moms to get “Me Time” so you need to make it a priority and schedule it in! Whether you just want to go shopping by yourself, sign up for the gym, or get a new hobby, you need to take care of yourself.
Fall shows us how beautiful it is to let things go. You can’t change or fix everything, even though as a mom it feels like that’s what we’re supposed to do. Sometimes we just have to let our hair down, give the hug, listen to the long story their trying to tell us, let them have the cookie, pick your battles, and just let it go (minus the frozen castle).
So go ahead and take care of yourself for once. Don’t listen to judgment or what other people think, you do you, girl. Work on your self-confidence in whatever way you need to. For me, I just need to let my hair down, throw on a new dress, buy a new cozy sweater, and wear some rose gold jewelry every once in a while to remember that I’m more than just a mom. I’m Sarah-Jean.
