I grew up in Massachusetts and my husband grew up in Maine, but both of us spent our summer’s enjoying all the fun and beautiful sights that New Hampshire has to offer. That’s why when we got married, we decided to move to New Hampshire and raise our family here! We might be a little bias, but we think New Hampshire is one of the best places in the United States.
Because of this, we know ALL the fun things to do in and around Lake Winnipesaukee and all the family-friendly things to do this summer if you visit NH!
Story Land in Glen, NH
The best thing you can do with your family this summer is head to Story Land in Glen, NH! It is absolutely our favorite thing to do as a family and we all have so much fun.
I am very excited to take my two-year-old, who will be able to ride most of the rides at the park this year. Only 6 of the rides require a height of 36 or more inches, and only one of those 6 require a height of 48 inches to ride. The entire park is geared towards children aged 3 – 12 and all the rides are extremely family friendly.
You can bring your own lunch or enjoy one of the many restaurants and food stops within the park. If it’s a hot day, be sure to pack water-friendly attire so the kids can cool off at the geysers!
Don’t forget that they have a Daniel Tiger show too!

M/S Mount Washington on Lake Winnipesaukee
The M/S Mount Washington cruise is beautiful to take any time in between now and when the leaves start to change color. It’s one of the most popular things to do on Lake Winnipesaukee and something that every family should do at least once.

Pirate’s Cove Adventure in Weirs Beach, NH
Mini golf is a favorite for my kids. I like going to Pirate’s Cove because they make mini golfing a multi-dimensional adventure that the whole family will enjoy. Who wouldn’t want to be a pirate for an afternoon?! Argh!

Ellacoya State Park in Gilford, NH
Ellacoya is one of my favorite beaches on Lake Winnipesaukee. It’s the perfect beach for small children and it’s usually not crowded. The beach only allows so many people in, so make sure you go in the early morning on weekends and holidays! They also have picnic tables, little grills, a clean bathhouse, and you can even find parking in the shade. Just ensure your kid has the right swimming materials to make it easy for him to learn to swim before you go!
