Not many people know this, but this coming weekend, there’s a national holiday that families need to start taking advantage of.
August 7th is
National Play Outside Day!
TheSoul Publishing’s popular 5 Minute Crafts YouTube channel shares a video of fun ideas for you and the family to try as you celebrate outside this weekend. Below are a few ideas to get you started:
- Enjoy some bubble blowing fun with the kids by cutting the bottom of a water bottle, slipping an old sock over the hole and dipping it into soapy water. As you blow through the mouthpiece watch a long trail of bubbles follow!
- A fun game of ping-pong shooting never hurt anybody! Try this game by cutting the bottom of a paper cup and the bottom of a latex balloon. Next, tie the balloon and attach the bottom to cover the hole of the paper cup. Insert the ping-pong ball in the cup, pull back the balloon, and watch the ball shoot out!
- DIY obstacle courses are a great way to get the family into physical activities! This can be as creative and as difficult as you like!
If you want to go beyond your own backyard, here are a few ideas to play outside with the whole family:
Go To A Lake
Want to have the best day with your kids on National Play Outside Day? Visit a State Park for the day like Wentworth State Park in NH. From swimming and playing on the beach to having a picnic and even camping, State Parks offer so many different things to do that you won’t be at a loss for things to do or bored for even one second. Grab yourself a Wonderfold W4 4-Seater Wagon to load all the kids into it and GO play outside!
Go To The Ocean
What better way to spend National Play Outside Day than at the ocean?! If you live somewhere that is within a 3 hour drive to the ocean, definitely take the kids and GO! It’s totally worth it and the kids will have so much fun. If you want to call it a field trip, find a public beach near a Lighthouse you can take a tour of while you’re there. Make a day of it!
Go To An Amusement Park
We think the best way to spend the day is at Story Land in Glen, NH. It’s one of our very favorite spots to take the kids in the summer! Click here to read all about our annual Story Land trip that we took in early July. It was our youngest son’s first time at Story Land (outside the womb) and he had a BLAST! (Don’t forget your Wonderfold Wagon!)
