The benefits of cosleeping are becoming widely known these days as more and more moms choose to keep their babies in the same room as them. The safety of sharing a bed with your baby continues to be a concern to most parents, which is why a convenient bedside sleeper is a must-have for today’s modern mom.
I set out to find the best cosleeper crib several months before my 4th child was born. With previous babies, we had plenty of room in our king size bed to safely share our bed with our baby. This time, however, our 2-year-old was still sleeping in our bed with us so we knew we would need a side sleeper for our new baby.
After hours of online research, I began to realize that I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for. Most cosleepers or side sleeper cribs were either shaped funny, had cumbersome “features” or were ridiculously expensive. The most popular cosleeping crib I found was the Arm’s Reach Bedside Co-Sleeper but not only did I not like the design, I thought it was ugly too.
I kept thinking about what I wanted in a cosleeper and couldn’t understand why everything I found widely available was lacking the two basic features I wanted – the ability to have it the same level as my bed with no dip, ridge, or fence in the way and something that would fit in with the decor of my room (ie. not ugly!).
My next search became “wood cosleeper” on Etsy. That’s when I found the Convertible Side Sleeper from LifioCo. It was exactly what I was looking for!
Wooden, modern, stylish, attaches to the bed, same height as the mattress, and best of all, this particular bedside sleeper turns into a toy box when you are done using it as a cosleeping bed. I love things that are convertible and offer multiple uses!
It arrived quickly and was easy for my husband to put together and install onto the side of the bed. You only need to install the legs onto the unit, slide the hinged wooden lid under your mattress, then slip the included nylon strap under your mattress and secure on the other side of the bed.

I found Home of Wool on Etsy that offers handmade wool mattresses and natural bedding. I contacted the shop owner to custom make a wool-filled mattress for the cosleeper. The mattress took about 2 weeks to arrive from Bulgaria, but the wait was totally worth it.

To protect the wool mattress from nighttime diaper leaks, I got a natural wool puddle pad from LittleBunnyBear. It’s thick and cushy wool offers natural antibacterial and liquid-repelling properties. This is the perfect liner for a cosleeper, crib or family bed as the wool absorbs up to 40% if its own weight in liquid and still feels dry! Plus, you don’t need to wash it every time it gets wet. Simply air dry and reuse. The great thing about wool is that the natural lanolin actually reacts with urine to produce water and salt, so it won’t smell! I was happy to discover that a standard pillowcase fits the cosleeper mattress almost perfectly! The two pillowcases I tried were just half an inch too narrow so it squeezed the mattress a tiny bit too tight, but not enough to affect the function.
Once I discovered that a standard pillow case fit the cosleeper mattress, I decided to grab some new sheets at Target (Room Essentials Easy Care Sheet Set in Sandalwood) and extra pillowcases so everything would match! I am super happy with the results as the sheets also match our Dock-A-Tot which fits perfectly into the side sleeper crib too.

We are extremely satisfied with both the quality, function, and style of the bedside sleeper crib from LifioCo. I am so glad that there were parents out there just like me that wanted a different kind of co-sleeper and decided to build it themselves. They even thought of little details that I wouldn’t have like the ability to convert it into a toy box or desk later. Brilliant!
