As a modern parent, I believe it is our responsibility to be as environmentally and economically responsible as we can be. We have more knowledge than our parents did so we can make smarter decisions that are better for our children and the world we live in.ย “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” –ย Maya Angelou.
Over 27 billion diapers are disposed of every year just in the USA; that totals about 2% of all landfills. It is estimated that it will take a single diaper about 250-300 years to fully decompose. That’s insane considering the average child will go through 6,500โ10,000 diapers before potty training at the age of 3. That’s over $3,000 per child. The implications of these figures and the impact on our lives and the earth are catastrophic.
Thankfully, there is a better way. A good quality cloth diaper collection only cost around $300-$500 which is significantly less than disposable diapers. Large families are usually big advocates for cloth diapering considering you can use your cloth diaper collection for multiple children. A simple wash routine is easy to work into your schedule and cloth diapers don’t contain carcinogens or chemicals like most disposableย diapers either.
One trustworthy brand of cloth diapers I can recommend is Bambino Mio.
The miosolo all-in-one nappy
We got the opportunity to try out twoย of the Bambino Mio Miosolo All-in-One Diaper in their spring prints, “Sail Away” and “Sky Ride”.
Check out these two handsome boys rocking their cloth diapers. Baby D on the left is 6 months old and weighs about 16 pounds. Baby K on the right is 1 month old and weighs almost 10 pounds. Both babies got an excellent fit with the diapers adjustableย rise and convenient hook and loop waist closure.
These guys love each other and their cloth diapers! Getting them to hold still and pose for a picture was a whole other story though…
The diapers were initially too big for my 7lb baby to wear when he was born, so I waited a couple months before I tried them out. Once he was about 9 pounds, they fit him great and we’ve been using them ever since.
Ironically, both babies ended up pooping during the photoshoot, and thankfully we had no leaks! The leg gussets worked very well on both of them. After using these diapers for 6-8 weeks on Baby D and 2 weeks on Baby K, we can confirm that the diapersย have not leaked on either baby. Plus, they are super absorbent and work great overnight with heavy wetters too!
I like the combination of riser snaps and the hook and loop closers for the waistband. It makes it easy to get a great fit on each individual baby at whatever their size is.
The diapers provided a good fit around the waist, no matter their weight or size. I was concerned about the fit on Baby K, but it actually fit him very well despite looking a bit bulky looking. These diapers might not be suitable for the first few weeks on smaller newborns, but will work well from birth (8lbs) and up!
If someone wanted to buy their entire diaper stash before their baby was born, I would say that getting these diapers would be a great choice, especially if their baby was measuring larger. Other brands of one-size diapers I’ve tried are much too big on an average newborn and really can’t be used till they are two months old.
Viking toys on the baby gym are from Finn & Emma
Right now, Bambino Mio is having a big sale with 20% off everything on their website. You definitely don’t want to miss this! I would definitely take this opportunity to add to your diaper stash or start one from scratch if you are expecting!
They have so many cute prints to choose from and great accessories like wet bags, tote bags, coffee cups, laundry detergent (which works GREAT btw), baby wipes, blankets and more.
