Baby Shower Gift Ideas to Impress Modern Parents

It’s fun to celebrate a new baby with a gift; however, gift-givers often are stumped when trying to come up with a meaningful gift that the baby’s parents will use and appreciate. If you’re in this situation, read on for some gift ideas that both the baby and their parents will surely appreciate.

Baby Skin Care Products

Skin care products like baby oil and luxury creams are classic baby gifts that will be appreciated by all new parents. Because babies have such sensitive skin, it’s important to make sure that they have a proper skincare routine to stay healthy. Products like the Tiger Baby All The Love Bundle can help new parents totally avoid harsh ingredients and possible skin irritation that can occur from all the chemical-laden baby products you usually find on the shelves. Tiger Baby offers non-toxic, USA made, hypoallergenic baby products that you can feel good about gifting or using on your own baby.

Some gift boxes like the Motherlove Bump To Baby Gift Box have soothing, natural fragrances that are perfect for helping both moms and babies relax. Babies tend to get fussy in the evenings – a portion of the day that moms usually call “the witching hour”, where they will fuss often and can be nearly impossible to soothe. In these circumstances, giving baby a bath and rubbing them down with baby oil from Motherlove will have both mom and baby feeling a lot more relaxed!

The Motherlove Bump To Baby Gift Box is the best gift you can give a new mom because it has absolutely everything she will need immediately post-partum including nipple cream and sitz bath spray (a total lifesaver!). Plus Motherlove diaper balm is absolutely superior to anything else I have ever tried.

Mommies On the Go!

Parents of a new baby are very busy, especially if there are older children in the house. Some obligations may require parents to take their babies along with them like shopping, errands, and even cooking at home. Baby carriers like the Aloha & Light Eco-Silk Onbuhimo are perfect for keeping babies secure when mommy is on the go. Soft materials are important for keeping babies comfortable when you are carrying them.

Alternatively, you can opt for something super easy to use like LoveHeld baby carriers for style and functionality.

Be sure to try a few different carriers to see what works best for you and your baby and carefully consider what size of carrier will be best. Petite women tend to like different baby carriers than plus-size women, but everybody and baby is different, so there is no one “perfect baby carrier”. While it’s important to keep babies secure while traveling, too much tightness can make your baby cranky and you uncomfortable. Find a local baby-wearing group and a crunchy, hippie mom for a friend so you can try out different carriers before you commit to purchasing the one you love best.

Clothing & Diapers

Some infants have trouble behaving if they feel restricted by their clothing. Finding some comfortable clothes is a great way to help babies look and feel great. However, some mothers enjoy the surprise of not knowing their baby’s gender until they are born. In cases like these, gender-neutral organic cotton clothes are a great gift for any baby. Cotton is a soft fabric that is great for warm and cold seasons.

While the right baby clothes are a matter of personal preference, every baby is going to need a generous supply of diapers. A set of High-Performing Organic Diapers will always be greatly appreciated by parents. While you might think you are getting a better bang for your buck by purchasing store-brand diapers from you local big box store, these diapers not only are more likely to cause tremendous rashes because they are less absorbent, leak often, but they can also fall apart when wet.

Don’t inflict new parents with more stress than they already have. Always get the best diapers you can afford so that they won’t have to experience the woes of cheap, poorly-made, chemical-filled diapers. To prevent this, always look for high-quality, organic diapers that will keep babies dry and their skin safe from cancer-causing ingredients. Healthy Baby diapers are a great choice!

If you plan on attending a baby shower soon, use some of these tips to help new parents prepare for the baby that they’re expecting. The perfect baby shower gifts will help busy parents focus on keeping their newborn happy and healthy.

Stylish Toy Storage

With all those baby shower gifts, the mom-to-be might get overwhelmed with what to do with them all! Give her peace of mind with this stylish toy solution, the Brandless Basket Bundle! ($71)

Keep all the toys tidy in the baby’s new nursery with these cute and cozy baskets. You can stash all kinds of stuff in these soft, responsibly sourced baskets with handles. They’re sturdy enough to hold loads of things from diapers and wipes to toys and laundry. An added bonus – they’re crafted by artisans who have quality and the well-being of the planet in mind. Win win!

Big Ticket Items

Do you really want to be the star of the show at the baby shower? Get one of these big ticket items, even if they didn’t make it to their registry and we promise you’ll make a great impression!

What mama can resist a beautiful, bohemian macrame baby swing? This gem from Finn & Emma will wow the parents and all the guests. A baby gym is another great option even if it’s not on the mom-to-be’s baby registry. There are so many beautiful and versatile baby gyms out there, don’t grab the first one you see in the big box stores.

Here are some better options:

Comfort Measures

By the time the baby shower comes around, the mommy to be is usually getting pretty darn uncomfortable! The last 2 months of pregnancy are arguably the worst. Not only are you weighed down by all the pregnancy weight, you have to deal with aches, pains, Braxton hicks contractions, and more. All of these things can lead to a really crappy night’s sleep!

Make her more comfortable with something she will enjoy and use everyday until the baby comes – a total body pregnancy pillow!

This Total Body Pregnancy Pillow from Boppy is a one-piece maternity pillow that provides full body support and helps align the head, neck, back, hips and cuddle that baby bump.

The unique contoured shape is perfect for the third trimester and is designed to follow the shape of your body while cradling that growing baby bump. A definite winner in our book!

With all these baby shower gift ideas, you have plenty to choose from to suit every kind of mom and every kind of budget! Happy shopping!

The day comes for every parent when they child reaches the age of 2 and they decide to potty train and they look back and realize HOW MUCH MONEY they have spent on diapers. For some paresnts, this may come as a shock, while others realize the great expense of diapering a child from birth to th age of potty training. There is a great cost involved regardless of whether you decide to use disposable diapers or cloth diapers. Each diapering system has their own set of costs.

Since diapering is an essential part of the well-being of a child and an ongoing expenditure, you need to plan which diapering system makes the most sense for you, your child, and your budget. Considering we are in a pandemic, you will likely have to shop for diapers online. If you plan efficiently in the smartest way possible, you will save money and get the biggest bang for your buck.

Below is our top tips that will let you have ample time to get what you need, in the most economical way possible.

1. Figure Out What Type of Diaper You Need

The debatable issues here are about whether to buy a cloth diaper or disposable diapers all depends on your budget and your family. While there are pros and cons to each diapering system, you may find one is easier to use for one child, and not work at all for another child. Which type of diapers also depends on how many kids you have. CLoth diapering may have been feasible when you only had 2 kids, but if you have 5 or more, you may not have time for that extra load of laundry every day on top of washing clothes for your family of 7!

The biggest reason why people choose cloth diapers over disposables is usually because they are reusable and environmentally friendly. When you choose to buy a reusable item, the stressful bit lies in washing and drying inconveniences. They are also a much bigger initial investment.

On the other hand, when you think of a disposable diaper, they can be somewhat expensive depending on the brand but offer the required convenience, which is wonderful and can allow you more time to tend to other responsibilities. There will be situations when cloth diapers will do fine depending on the occasion and other occasions where disposable would perfectly serve the purpose like when traveling.

It really comes down to your own personal preference, budget, and which fits your particular baby better. If you have a heavy wetter, you can combine both types of diapering in such a way where you make use of cloth diapers in the day and disposable diapers for the night.

2. Do Not Over Buy

Regardless of which type of diapers you choose, you’ll need to stock up on enough diapers to ensure you won’t have to suddenly drop everything and run to the store when you realize you only have 2 diapers left in your house.

There are sales seasons for both types of diapers when it’s the most advantageous to be buying diapers online. However, please don’t overdo it and end up with way more than you need. This is especially true with cloth diapers.

For one, your child might grow faster than normal and some of the cloth diapers purchased might turn out to be useless. This is especially true with newborn diapers. While the cloth diaper market is always hot and you can easily turn around and sell used cloth diapers for nearly as much as you paid for them, you don’t need the extra work. If you are worried about your child outgrowing their diapers, go for adjustable Charlie Banana cloth diapers as they can get bigger and bigger with your child.

3. Buy A Sample Before Buying A Whole Package

There are different types of diapers online, with some made from VEOCEL baby wipes material and much more. When you are buying diapers online, you will realize that quality varies, and so every parent should be careful when differentiating the brands. If you can, borrow a diaper or two from a friend before buying a while box so you can try the different brands without committing to a jumbo pack of 225 diapers. While you will see significant savings, the bigger quantity you purchase, you also don’t want to be stuck with half a box of unused disposable diapers you can’t use because your little bundle of joy got too plump for them. This is one reason to go for cloth diapers because most of them are adjustable and much more size forgiving than disposables.

4. Take Advantage of Offers

It is vital to take advantage of buying diapers online because you can take advantage of coupons and offers that are guaranteed savings. Your purchases can always be smooth and relatively cheaper when you are buying diapers online. Keep your eyes peeled for coupons and promos from big stores like Walmart and Target. When you want cloth diapers, you can save big on Black Friday and Cyber Monday as most cloth diapers brands and stores like

Overall, seek to check the way diapers are made. Many brands like Sweet Pea are making eco-friendly disposable diapers so you can get the convenience of disposables without worrying about the effect on the planet.

Are you wondering how much do diapers cost per month? If yes, you should check out our guide here on the typical prices you can expect.

Congratulations if you are pregnant or are soon expecting to welcome your child into the world.

One of the basic things you need to provide your baby is diapers. A lot of it. Are you curious how much do diapers cost per month? You have come to the right page.

Here you will learn the average cost of diapers and what you can do to reduce the overall costs.

How Many Times Will You Change Diapers?

It’s no joke when people tell you diapers are one of the most expensive things you have to cover as a parent. The first year of your baby’s life will require what seems like endless changes.

The first 8-10 days will be the most trying. Your little one will go through 6-12 diapers each day. Most of these diaper changes will urine compared to bowel movements.

The First 6 Months

During the first month, your newborn will go through the most diapers. This will drop bit by bit as the month’s go by. Be prepared to change 8-12 diapers every day, meaning 240 to 320 diapers monthly.

one-month-old infants will have around 3-4 bowel movements. Their poop will mostly be meconium. Don’t be shocked at the color (tarry black or green); it surprisingly doesn’t smell bad. After some time, their poop will take more form and look seedy.

For months 2-6 the number drops to 6-8 changes a day, or 230 to 270 diapers. Once you notice your baby’s diaper is soiled, change it as soon as you can. This prevents pain, infection which results in more diapers and multiple trips to the doctor.

The Last 6 Months

Once your hurdle through the first 6 months, the last 6 months feel more doable. As your infant’s bladder grows with age, you won’t have to run to get them a clean one as much.

By this time, you are also starting to spend more money on food as you introduce solids into their diet. Thankfully, with the money you have to spend on food, you will spend less on diapers. The balance pays off as their digestive system is starting to mature.

During months 6-12 you will change around 6-7 diapers a day, or 170 to 240 a month. The number doesn’t decrease by much, but it’s something. The real decrease happens between 1-3 years old until they complete potty training.

How Much Do Diapers Cost Per Month For Parents?

The average baby can go through more than 2,000 diapers in a year or about 166 a month. If your baby is going through fewer diapers than expected, they may be dehydrated. You must check this with your physician.

There are a few factors that will affect the cost of diapers. The size of your baby, the brand you choose, and style all add to the total cost.

You should also add the budget you are willing to spend. Lower costing diapers will range from $0.23-0.40 per diaper and go up according to size and weight. Be careful when buying cheaper quality brands. You may end up spending twice as much because there are features it may not have.

High-cost brands range from $0.35-$0.65 per diaper. The cost also rises depending on size and weight.

Overall, you can expect to pay about $0.30 per diaper. If you are changing diapers 8-10 times a day, you will spend about $95. You will need about $80 a month when your baby only needs 6-7 diapers each month.

Once they are 1-2 olds, you will change their diapers 5-6 times a day. The cost of diapers will, of course, decrease. At this stage, the cost for diapers will be around $55-$70 a month.

There are spending variables you may experience that could require you to spend more. Sometimes your baby’s growth exceeds your expectations they outgrow sizes you already purchased. Since you miss out on using those old diapers you already bought, you may spend more.

Best Ways to Save Money On Diapers

The top item on every baby registry is diapers. Everyone knows how important they are and are willing to help reduce self-spending. Your friends and family can only help so much. There are still ways you can save money on diapers you have to spend.

Use Cloth Diapers

Cloth diapers may cost a bit more if you look at the upfront cost, but they are cheaper in the long run. Since you can use it multiple times, you don’t have to worry about throwing it away and replacing it with another one. Preparing to cloth diaper a new baby is similar to using disposables except for the washing routine that’s involved.

Take Advantage Of Coupons

Using coupons is an easy way to save on brands you already spend. You can find the best diaper deals online in the comfort of your own home. Never pay full price again so you can put that money on other baby necessities.

Buy in Bulk

Many online and physical stores also run deals when you buy diapers in bulk. They may have a buy one get one promotion or discount of certain products.

Just be careful not to overdo it. If you overspend, you may be left with extras your baby doesn’t need.

Getting Cashback and Giftcards

You might already possess a card that offers cashback or you can get one. There are many stores that offer their own cards you can use to save money as you spend it.

If you received a gift card, you can use those funds on diapers too when you go shopping. This way you’re spending as little of your money as possible.

Learning More As a Parent

Although there is no true guideline for parenting that exists, it’s helpful to learn common things your baby will do, need, or go through. Babies are expensive and it can be surprising to learn how much it actually costs to raise a kid once you do the math.

How much do diapers cost per month? How much can you expect to spend on formula? While it does vary, you can get an accurate estimate by dedicating time by figuring out how money diapers your baby goes through.

Safe at home means not leaving your house for an unknown amount of time because of the Covid-19 pandemic. For people like me who’s everyday lifestyle is already self-sufficient and reminiscent of hermit life, not much has changed. For other’s, this stay-at-home order is a nightmare. If you are used to going to the laundromat to do your laundry, things are probably getting pretty stinky right about now!

Laundry Alternatives

Nothing is more fashionable than being “green”, especially during a pandemic when basic necessities like toilet paper and paper towels are nowhere to be found. Many people carry around reusable coffee cups or water bottles or store food in glass jars instead of plastic to help the environment, but if you are self-quarantined, you may need to do these things out of necessity.

Most people do not consider doing laundry by hand as a way to cut down on environmental (and wallet) impact, but it’s actually a great way to save time and money.

The Wonder Wash and Ninja Spin Dryer have many benefits and they are the perfect solution to not being able to bring your clothes to the laundromat or the dry cleaners.

Why The Wonder Wash?

First, the Wonder Wash uses 90% less water than a washing machine. That is extremely important during these stressful times. My wash is done in 6 minutes, as opposed to the normal 40 minutes (on average) in a regular He machine.

Also, the Ninja Spin dryer takes approximately 4-5 minutes to get clothes almost completely dry whereas a normal machine may take almost an hour. Just hang them in a warm environment or hang them out in the sun and they will be completely dry in approximately 20-30 minutes. Altogether, an average load of laundry takes anywhere from 40 minutes to 2 hours to be washed, dried, and completely ready to wear or fold.

If you are stuck in your apartment with no washer or dryer and no access to a laundromat, the Wonder Wash and Ninja Dryer is an absolute necessity for your life!

The Wonder Wash definitely improved the quality of my life when I lived in New York City a few years back. (Side note: REALLY glad I don’t live there right now!) The amount of time and energy I would lose on a Saturday doing all our laundry at the laundromat would have made my life miserable. It also helped reduce my trips to the dry cleaner as well.

Compact And Space-Saving

Living in New Hampshire in an RV, the Wonder Wash has proved to be compact and still a great laundry alternative. In both living spaces, the two products did not take up living space because we store them in our shower stall when they aren’t in use.

I like getting laundry done in 15 minutes (not including the time it takes to completely dry). I also like that it uses very little water and even less laundry soap. Hands down this is a great way to start saving money and being more eco-friendly!

The Downside

There are a couple of downsides to this type of laundry routine. The first is making sure you follow the manufacturer’s directions when washing your clothes. The second is making sure that clothes dry properly. I have a system of shaking out my clothes to avoid wrinkles and them immediately hang them up to dry either inside on a wrack or outside on a clothes line.

Thirdly, big, fluffy items like coats, pillows, and comforters don’t fit in the washer and would still need to be brought to the laundromat or the dry cleaners. (Try to avoid getting items like that dirty while you are self-quarantining!) If you are really desperate, you can always wash them the old fashioned way in your bath tub.

If I have to do two or more loads in the washing machine, it can get boring staring at the wall and cranking the handle of the Wonder Wash. Put on your favorite music or some Netflix to help pass the time.

In Conclusion

Laundry Alternative offers many sizes to fit your needs. Check out their website to order their products. Sometimes you can get them on Amazon as well. My Wonder Wash and Ninja Dryer have already paid for themselves, and I think you will appreciate not using a laundromat during these uncertain times.

Preparing to Cloth Diaper a New Baby

Whether it is your first baby or fifth, it is important to get your cloth diaper “stash” ready before baby comes.

Destash What You Didn’t Like

When you first find out that you are expecting #2 (or #3 or #7) it is good to self-evaluate what works for your family. My friend didn’t like Alva diapers, but I did. My friend loved GroVia diapers, but they didn’t work for my first child. Once you find what works for you, go on eBay or Facebook Marketplace and sell the diapers you did not like. Clutter isn’t good for anyone.

Build Your Stash

Now that you have downsized your cloth diaper stash to what you like, make sure you have enough of what you DO like. Make sure you have enough diapers to go at least 2, if not 3 days, without having to do laundry. Ideally, you should plan to do a load of cloth diaper wash every 48 hours, but you want backup just in case you can’t because one of your kids has a cold, you have to be out of the house on diaper wash day and forget to put them in, or some other circumstance that keeps you from your laundry room. For me, 6-8 cloth diapers daily was my comfort zone for pocket diapers like Charlie Banana. You may need more or less depending on which brand you use and what type of cloth diaper.

Personally, I love GroVia Newborn AIO diapers for the first couple months. They are quick and easy to use, just like disposables, so you don’t make any extra work for yourself while you’re recovering and cuddling your new little squish.

Some cloth diapers will adjust in size small enough to be used as newborn diapers and big enough to fit your three year old, like Bambino Mio Cloth Diapers. What works for one baby might not work for another baby if their build is different. One of my kids had big, fat thighs so we never had leaks. Then another baby had little skinny thighs a several brands leaked on him. You have to be willing to be a little flexible and try something new if what you are using isn’t working. Don’t give up cloth diapering all together just because one brand doesn’t work.

Must-Have Cloth Diaper Essentials

There are so many lists out there of essential baby products, but what do you really need?

GroVia Diaper Cream: My absolute favorite diapering cream is GroVia Magic Stick. That stuff is the BOMB. It works great and you can use it in cloth diapers, unlike those white creams like Desitin which will ruin your cloth diapers. GroVia Magic Stick creates a thin protective barrier between your baby’s skin and their diaper making rashes and irritation a lot less likely. You can grab it on Amazon or Walmart.

Sposie Booster Pads: These work great in my diapers for my heavy wetter. It isn’t the crunchiest solution, but when all the doublers in the world wouldn’t hold my son’s pee, I had to do something. Some mothers choose to use wool or make little felt liners, some choose to use regular disposables at night. Sposies were a good middle ground choice for me. If you feel like your baby is leaking through diapers no matter what you do, give Sposies a try! You can grab them on Amazon or at Target.

How To Deal With Babies & Gas

Many infants fart, and this is not a big deal to their mothers. However, excessive farting could be a sign that they are having difficulties with gas in their stomachs. This is common for kids between two weeks and four months. As a mother, you may be wondering how to deal with babies and gas and if excessive farting is actually a big deal.

Doctors say that most adult humans fart at least 23 times in a day, but babies should not be farting this much. More than once every couple of hours can be a signal of an issue. If your baby is farting more than this frequency, you should be concerned. Before we look at how to get rid of gas for such as an infant, we will discuss what the common symptoms that accompany these farts to help you understand what to look for in this case.

Symptoms of Baby Gas

Most children who fart excessively also bloat, burp or belch. Some fuss a lot while others experience stomach cramps that make them cry a lot. Baby gas also causes irritation and restlessness in a child. Some have constant hiccups while others experience flatulence. You may notice that the tummy of your baby is harder than it should be. An irregularity during urination as well as fever are also signs of baby gas.

Causes & Treatments of Gas In Babies

Underdeveloped digestive system

Babies are born with immature digestive systems. This inhibits quick digestion of foods such as proteins and fats that they get from breast milk. In the first month, your baby is learning how to digest food for the first time.

The muscles that are responsible for digestion are still developing. This makes the food they eat go through without a proper breakdown. It causes gas to develop through their intestines which lead to excessive farting. A child is likely to experience pain as they pass this gas making them cry excessively. This situation is temporary and may improve the development of their digestive system.

Lack of a balance in gut bacteria

At a tender age, a baby is born clean without sufficient bacteria flora which should digest breast milk.  Most bacteria that are found in 4 weeks baby are proteobacteria. This triggers production of gas which causes pain to an infant. Lots of proteobacteria make your baby fart excessively and cry.

With time, as you continue breastfeeding your child, they will pick good bacteria to help digest the food appropriately. Probiotics are the best way to stop farting of children since probiotics balance the bacteria in the baby’s gut. We highly recommend Evivo probiotics for babies to fix this issue.

Improper feeding techniques

Breastfeeding your baby directly or using baby bottles can either increase or reduce gas in a baby. Finding the right method to feed your baby will prevent them from swallowing gas. When breastfeeding, hold your baby in a position where their head goes above your breast to keep them from taking in the air. If your child swallows air, their digestive system struggles to break down lactose leading to the increase in intestinal gas. Now you know why your baby farts excessively.

A bottle to feed also affects the flow of milk inside their throat.  Ensure that you are doing it correctly to prevent them from swallowing gas. After your baby’s meal, put them at the right angle for them to burp so that you can eliminate gas trapped inside their system.

Allergy to milk protein

Do not assume that your baby may not react to artificial milk proteins. Unlike breast milk, some children are sensitive to formula food. Your child may negatively react to the whey or casein found in baby food which increases the rate of farting. Milk protein may cause inflammation in your baby’s digestive system which leads to flatulence.

The symptoms that accompany allergy of milk protein include congestion of the chest, diarrhea as well as rashes. You may also notice that your child’s stool may contain some mucus when changing their diapers. The best solution to this problem is using more breast milk instead of milk protein. Hypoallergenic formula is also a treatment for this allergy.

The shock from new surroundings

Studies reveal that it is possible for a one month baby to experience shock which leads to anxiety with the change from the surroundings. Since they are now out of your womb, a child may take time to learn how to respond to stimuli. Sensitivity to everything causes their brain to become overwhelmed by the new changes which lead to irritation and crying.  This fuss makes a child accumulate gas which increases farting. With time, they get used to their new environment and their bodies adjust accordingly.

Your diet

As a mam, the foods that you eat also affect how much gas your baby is likely to pass through farting.  Breastfeeding sometimes passes traces of your meals to your child. Children react to the foods we eat and if you are gassy, this, in turn, makes your child gassy. Ensure that you feed on healthy diets that don’t pass down the gas to them

Intolerance to lactose

A child’s mechanism is not wired to form sufficient lactase to break down lactose from breast milk. The lactose intolerance makes bacteria in a child’s large intestine increase fermentation causing smelly farts. This causes pain and abdominal cramps to a baby

Doctors advise that you drain the first milk from your breast to prevent lactose intolerance. They say that the breast contains foremilk and hindmilk. The first milk that comes out, which is the foremilk has more lactose than your hindmilk. It causes excess lactose in your baby if you don’t drain it before your baby feeds. Foremilk is also believed to increase flatulence.

Excessive feeding

Some women worry about a child going hungry thus may lead to overfeeding them. Remember that your child’s stomach is small and incapable of taking in too much milk. It prevents their digestive system from functioning properly and may lead to the production of intestinal gas which increases farting. It also causes tummy aches and flatulence. Rub the tummy of your child to prevent stomach aches from excess food as you peddle their feet.
