What Is CBD Oil?
CBD (also known as cannabidiol) is the non-psychotropic component of marijuana or hemp. The CBD oil is a mixture of the CBD isolate (pure CBD) + an oil like olive, hemp, or coconut. Don’t worry, CBD oil wonโt get you high because it doesnโt have the mind-altering properties of marijuanaโs tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content (they are sourced in different ways).

It is also important to know that CBD oil is not the same thing as hemp seed oil. The two are often marketed interchangeably, but CBD oil is richly concentrated in cannabidiol, whereas hemp seed oil only contains trace amounts of cannabidiol, if any.
What Is Hemp Oil?
It should be noted that hemp seed oil is not the same thing as CBD oil. The two are often mistaken for being the same thing because of poor marketing. In fact, hemp seed oil only contains trace amounts of CBD, if any at all.
Hemp oil is obtained by pressing hemp seeds. Cold pressed, unrefined hemp oil is dark to clear light green in color, with a nutty flavor. The darker the color, the grassier the flavour. It should not be confused with hash oil, a THC-containing oil made from the Cannabis flower.

Pain Relief with CBD
If you’re looking for all natural pain relief, CBD oil and hemp extracts are a great and surprisingly effective option. I reviewed HempMeds Active Relief Roll Onย and Hemp Theory Pain Creamย for 8 weeks to see how they worked and was surprised by the results!
HempMeds Active Relief Roll On is very similar to Biofreeze Pain Relief Roll On Gel but… more effective! While it’s 5x the price, I found it to be at least 5x more effective at relieving aches and pains than Biofreeze.
My favorite for pain relief is Hemp Theory Pain Cream. I had a lot of trouble with lower back pain and sciatica during the third trimester of my pregnancy. Hemp Theory’s Pain Cream became a necessity for my survival in addition to twice-weekly chiropractic care. I used nearly 75% of the tube in 8 weeks with 1-3 times of daily use. I noticed mild relief almost immediately and increased relief with half an hour. The pain-relieving effect seems to last for about 6 hours and I noticed when I needed to apply more!
Hemp Theory Pain Cream is cheaper than the HempMeds Roll On and I found it easier to apply to my lower back without assistance.
Overall, I would highly recommend both products as a great option for natural pain relief, especially during pregnancy when you don’t want to be putting chemicals on your skin.
Stress & Pain Relief with Hemp Oil

These were the trickiest to review and I did not do so scientifically! Three of us reviewed the hemp oils and found various results. Obviously, we saw more results with the higher mg’s per servings ones.
Nature’s Script with 16.7 mg CBD per serving was able to relieve arthritis pain, joint pain, inflammation, muscle pain, and growing pains in a teenager. The effects were equivalent OR more effective than a standard dosage of ibuprofen.
Hemp Theory with 10 mg CBD per serving was almost just as effective as Nature’s Script and will give you the biggest bang for your buck.
NatulabUSA with 5 mg CBD per serving was a great stress reliever. Reviewers noted it helped with general stress and anxiety, like yoga in a bottle with a calming cup of tea on the side. Nothing crazy, but definitely helped calm the nerves from the daily stresses of life.
Dixie Botanicals with only 1.7 mg CBD per serving was definitely the most delicious of all the hemp oils we tried and they have several flavors available. After trying stronger formulas, there were no noticeable “side effects” which may mean that this one could be appropriate for teens experiencing stress and anxiety from high school, work, etc.*
