Well, the summer of 2020 is certainly not what we imagined it to be. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all aspects of our lives. We were given little to no time to adjust to this new lifestyle and to the new normal. Staying at home is the best thing we can do right now but letโs agree that wearing pajamas and sweatpants all day long is becoming harder and we no longer enjoy it as much as we used to. Fashion is not canceled and we can still look cool this summer at home and for our video conferences. Today, I want to talk to you about a very trendy and very versatile accessory that will complete any look – silk scarves.ย
Iโll share with you several ways that you can use silk scarves with artwork this summer to look nice for your video calls, how to wear it out and simply use it to feel elegant and put-together at home.
Look professional for your online meetings
You may be very tempted to wear your pajama shirt to a meeting because most likely you just rolled out of bed and went straight to your laptop for that Zoom meeting. But at some point, it becomes very difficult to work in comfy clothes. Sometimes you need an actual outfit to get into work mode. The good news is that you can combine both and look nice and be comfortable. Take the look in this photo as an example. Pair your silk scarf with a t-shirt and jeans and youโve got yourself a casual and convenient outfit that you can wear during your calls and while making lunch, walking your dog or doing laundry. You can also wear an oversized shirt with some shorts and add a silk scarf to complete the look.
A side tip – if youโre in the mood for sweatpants but have an important meeting to attend or perhaps an interview then simply throw a shirt on, tie your hair in a bun and wear a silk scarf around your neck. Voila, you look professional but also feel comfortable and confident for your meeting.
Tie your hair with a silk scarf
This is my favorite and go-to thing to do when I want to look good and at the same time, donโt want to put a lot of effort into the outfit. There is just something about silk scarves that boosts my confidence and makes me feel prepared for the day. There are several options of how you can use a silk scarf as a hair accessory:
- Scrunchieย ย
The easiest way is to use your silk scarf as a scrunchie and tie your hair in a ponytail or a bun with it. I suggest you use colorful silk scarves for this one, so it becomes a unique highlight in your outfit.
- Headband
You can also turn your silk scarf into a headband by tying it around your head. Now, you can either go with a single wrap and knot it in the back under your hair, or go with more fancy options. You can find a tutorial here.
- Bandanaย
Need I say more? Bandanas might not be that comfortable to wear at home but if youโre working from your yard or simply reading a book outside, a bandana made of a silk scarf can make you look cute and protect you from the sun.
- Head wrapย
For our bold readers, I recommend a hair wrap. Long and wide silk scarves are an excellent option for hair wraps. Simply type โhair wrap with a silk scarfโ into pinterest and you will find so many options all worth trying.
Turn your silk scarf into a face mask
Perhaps the most relevant use of silk scarves these days is turning it into a face mask. Please note that medical masks and especially the N95 respirators are the most effective and if you have the option to get those do so. Silk scarf masks are just alternatives. It is said that natural materials like silk and cotton are better suited for being used as face masks because unlike fabrics like nylon, they tend to keep viruses for a shorter amount of time.
So, get your silk scarf from your wardrobe and letโs turn it into a face mask. For this youโll need a square scarf that is long enough to be tied around your head.
- Start by folding it wide enough to cover your nose and your mouth. Make sure you fold it at least five times for maximum protection.
- Take two ponytail holders and put them on both ends of the folded scarf.
- Put it around your neck and tie the two ends of the scarf together with another ponytail holder.
- Rotate it so the tied part is in the back of your head. Put the scarf over your mouth and nose and put the two ponytails holders around your ears to make sure that the mask wonโt fall.
Use your silk scarves creatively
Silk scarves can come in handy not only as a fashion accessory but an item that can have very creative applications. Here are some other ways you can use your silk scarf this summer:
- Make it a belt
Whether itโs a nice sunflower dress, shorts or a pair of jeans, a silk scarf with colorful prints can be the belt you were looking for.
- Use it as a camera strap
Yes, you can go on Amazon, Etsy or another online shop and order a camera strap but why bother if you can simply turn your silk scarf into one. You just need to make sure itโs firm enough to hold your camera.
- Hang it on your wall
Letโs admit that some silk scarves are too pretty to be folded. Scarves with nice prints and graphics like silk scarves with artwork on them can be used as artwork. Simply get a good frame and youโve got yourself a new decoration.
- DIY your sandals
This is hands down my favorite fashion hack, if you may. Give new life to your strappy sandals by tying a silk scarf around them.
Like I said in the introduction, staying home is the best thing we can do right now but a colorful scarf in your hair or around your neck can change your mood and help you shift to a working mode.
