Blooming flowers, baby animals, chirping birds and fuzzy caterpillars escaping detection on tree branches–it’s spring! Usually, floral prints are the stars of the spring fashion scene and this year is no different–there will certainly be florals. However, the world of prints has broadened and diversified so much that there’s now something to suit everyone’s tastes–male, female, adult, child, teen and senior. Oh, and likely pets too!
Here are a few of our favorite prints for spring 2019:
Plaid Prints
Think pink, blue and yellow–spring colors that come to life. Enjoy the freedom of combining different plaids with different patterns and styles to create a look that is truly your own.
Tie-Dye
This season, your tie-dye options range from monochromatic to every color in the rainbow. Choose from small patterns or ones with big bold patterns that make a powerful statement about your personal style.
Scribble Print
These fun, pattern-less prints can be found on dresses, skirts, and shirts. They may resemble animal or polka dot prints or even the doodles in the margin of a bored teenager’s notebook–but in a much cooler, grown-up way, of course. You can even try your hand at DIY or do some fabric printing yourself!
Polka Dots
Pleasing to the eye and the spirit, polka dots are to be embraced when making a spring fashion statement. Big and small, on shoes, sweaters, dresses, and skirts, polka dots are everywhere. Best of all, they’re not just for spring; you can wear them in summer and straight on into fall. Try pairing black polka dots on white fabric with white polka dots on black fabric and prepare yourself for an avalanche of compliments.
Animal Pattern Prints
Let’s face it: leopard prints will always be in. Cow prints? Also in. Snake prints were so last season but you might still see them around. And why the heck not? The star of this spring, however, has got to be the zebra. You’ll find these prints everywhere. And that’s a good thing because what’s more flattering than some diagonal stripes mixed with more black and white to make a girl feel pretty and tall, slender and powerful. You know, like a zebra.
Geometric-Shaped Prints
Rectangles. Squares. Triangles. Rhombi. These are way more interesting on pants and bathing suits than they ever were in a math textbook.
Stripes
Vertical, horizontal, minimalist, diagonal–it’s all about stripes! From big and bold to thin and thick and everything in between. Monochrome and colorful, stripes have come out to play this season.
Tropical Prints
Tropical prints do resemble floral prints but they definitely offer a different take on that similar theme. The tropical print is more subtle and, thus, can be dressed up or down as necessary whereas a floral print is often less versatile.
Floral Prints
Well, it wouldn’t be spring without them, would it? But there’s a new spin on them this season. Think of a mixed medley of flowers featuring all sizes, colors, shapes, and styles. The possibilities! And for those who love a vintage look without, well, an actual vintage feel, the 60s vibe has made a comeback–win-win!
Fruity Prints
Cherries. Strawberries. Oranges. If you can eat it, you can find it on clothing and accessories this season. Bright and cheerful, the fruit prints are perfect for both spring and summer.
Artsy Prints
Think Andy Warhol and you have a perfect image of what these are like. Prints comprised of elements of his signature works were all over every piece imaginable on the runway this season. You can be as cool as your clothing says you are!
Bold Abstract Prints
Abstract prints with very bold colors were also featured on the runway. Swirls, flowers, and abstract designs. These pieces are ideal for spring and summer.
Cartoonish Prints
Emojis, colored hearts, cartoon characters, but all re-imagined for a grown-up look. Think black and white outlines of the Disney Princesses, panels from comic strips–and, of course, My Little Pony. They’re so gorgeous and brightly colored, perfect for the Millennial in all of us.
Patchwork Prints
Patchwork is making a comeback. If you loved this style in the ‘90s, you’ll love it even more now because it goes so perfectly with your favorite pair of soft jeans. Bonus: you get to pair it with patchwork shoes. Dreams can come true!
As you consider these prints, look for things that speak to you. Don’t be afraid to experiment with your personal style. You never know what you’re going to fall in love with until you try it on. If you don’t normally wear bright or bold prints, take baby steps by pairing a bright print with a favorite pair of jeans. The styles are so varied this season that it’s impossible not to find something you love. So have fun!
