In an earlier post I put some skinny jeans out there as an idea for an outfit. One of our readers, Abe (thanks for the comment Abe!!) pointed out that they may not work for someone whose body has endured child birth! I love our readers comments, it is so fun to have a great interactive setting where we get tips and tricks on how exactly to be trendy when we feel our bodies, from babies and otherwise, are not at their peak! Abe, you are not alone!
It is true that skinny jeans get a bad rap for being, well, so skinny first of all! And along those same lines it’s easy to think that they are for the younger set because they tend to be “skinny”. But I want to dispel that myth! Sure we have all seen someone thinking they can pull off the look and doing it horribly, but don’t let that deter you. Skinny jeans can be very flattering to many body types if worn properly.
There are two great features of a skinny jean (or pant) is that allows them to be so versatile. The first is that they tend to be have a lower rise (or a really short zipper), which means that they hit lower on the hip; albeit a time or too dangerously low. But use this to your advantage! You don’t have to “put” as much of your mid-section into the jean. Seems a little crazy, I know… but this leads me to my second point. The skinniness on the bottom, if you will, allows you to overcompensate up top. Long and flowy tops are PERFECT for pairing with the skinny jean. And you can choose to belt (if you feel comfortable) or be free and flowing with no belt at all as well.
One of my favorite personal looks these days is a skinny jean with a mini dress. I included an example below. Let the jeans cover the legs and the dress cover the top. It can be casual with a high boot or high style with a pump. Then nicely paired with simple accessories and a great handbag and not only have you completely pulled off the skinny jean but you look sophisticated and up with the trends. Moms should not be left out of this fun and easy trend!
