It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
Last weekend we got our Christmas tree at a local tree farm we didn’t even know existed. I love shopping local so we went to the Christmas Tree Farm we had been to the year before and they were closed, sadly. There seems to be a shortage of trees this year, so we were anxious to find a place to get a tree before they were sold out or we ended up needing to buy one from Home Depot or something silly like that. After realizing our usual place was closed, we started backtracking because someone in the car insisted they had seen a Cut-Your-Own-Tree sign a few miles back. We eventually found the place and we were happy to discover it was even closer to home than the other place and HALF THE PRICE!
I just love walking around Christmas tree farms. I’m hoping to plant some on my own property someday.
We found the perfect tree right away and everyone agreed it was just right.
So my husband grabbed the saw and cut it down!
Our two year old went ballistic about us cutting the tree down. He thought this was a totally unacceptable practice and basically yelled at us to put the tree back and loudly objected to us tying it on the roof of our minivan. Needless to say, I didn’t take any pictures of that.
We got the tree home, had hot chocolate, listened to classic Christmas music like Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole, and decorated the tree.
One of my favorite things about Christmas is decorating the house inside and out! I’m so preoccupied decorating every room, making sure all the kid’s get an advent calendar, baking, and trying to squeeze in every Christmas tradition I can, that I usually forget about myself for the month of December.
My fashionable outfits turn into the daily mom-uniform of a graphic tee and jeans with my favorite wool slippers. One thing that doesn’t change is my jewelry. No matter what, I always have my stackable dainty gold rings on!
There is something about my rose gold rings that just make me feel put together and feminine, even if I’m hanging around in slippers wrapping Christmas presents or dressed up to go out for dinner with my husband. I’m slowly adding to my collection and I love how dainty gold rings look. Rose gold is my favorite because it’s less fancy than straight-up yellow gold but not as casual as silver. It’s right in the middle and it goes with everything. Even wool slippers.
My outfit of the day might not be anything to write home about right now, but that’s ok. There is a season for everything. Right now, it’s a season of Christmas traditions, hot chocolate, baking Christmas cookies, doing good things for others, helping those in need and preparing our heart’s for the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ.
Every time you look at your Christmas tree, remember that the evergreen Christmas tree stays green all year long. This reminds us of the everlasting hope of salvation and eternal life in heaven.
When you look at the star on your tree, remember the star that led the three wise men to Bethlehem.
When you look at the garland, remember to rejoice that our savior has come.

Whatever you do for your family this Christmas, remember you are enough! You will be utterly exhausted if you try to do everything and then you’ll be disappointed and feel “less then” if you don’t accomplish it all. Don’t do that to yourself, mama. Don’t kill yourself trying to do it all. Somedays you might kill it and other days you might need dry shampoo and an extra cup of coffee.
Right now, I’m ok with focusing mostly on family and less on myself. I’m thankful for little things like mascara and dainty gold rings to make me feel pretty even on the days I don’t get out of my wool slippers.
